Taking away the sole

This may have nothing to do with HK other than the fact that there are loads of woman wearing the famous red sole on the streets, and it may be a little late in the blogging sphere, but I needed to have my say!

We all know that the infamous Christian Louboutin heel is synonymous with high fashion, style and that the ‘who’s who’ from Tinseltown to the high streets are found stiletto-ed in them.

So when I heard that YSL has been able to put a red sole on their latest 2011 resort collection of shoes I was super disappointed. (After Louboutin suing YSL, the judge ruled that “Because in the fashion industry colour serves ornamental and aesthetic functions vital to robust competition, the court finds that Louboutin is unlikely to be able to prove that its red outsole brand is entitled to trademark protection”).

What has happened to the ownership of creative & intellectual property? Why should Mr Louboutin who in his genius came up with something to distinguish himself from all the other shoes out there, be made to pay the price by having other fashion houses steal his soul? Makes me red with anger!

Come on YSL, you too are a creative and powerful fashion house, why would you want everyone to assume that your shoes are CL’s anyway?
Surely you should come up with something else to sell your shoes?

Go on, have an opinion... leave a comment!
